Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos paid a two-day working visit to Egypt on 4-5 June 2024.
During his stay in Cairo, the Minister met yesterday, 4 June, with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. In particular, the two Ministers held a private meeting followed by extended consultations with the participation of delegations from both Ministries. The consultations focused on bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt, the Cyprus problem, EU-Egypt relations, as well as regional developments in the Middle East.
The two Ministers also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the Republic of Cyprus and the Arab Republic of Egypt on the employment of Egyptian citizens in Cyprus. The aim of the MoU is to facilitate and regulate the entry and residence of Egyptian workers in Cyprus for employment in various sectors, depending on the needs of the market and the Government's policy in this regard.
At the end of the consultations, the Foreign Minister held a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart. The text of the Foreign Minister's introductory statement can be found here.
This morning, Mr. Kobos held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Arab League Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, with whom he exchanged views focusing on current developments in the Middle East.
In the framework of his visit to Cairo, the Foreign Minister also held a briefing meeting with representatives of the Egyptian media and gave an exclusive interview to an Egyptian TV channel.
