The Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Mr. George Papanastasiou chaired today, at the Ministry, separate meetings with the Directorates of the Independent Energy Transmission Operator of Greece (ADMIE) and the Transmission System Operator of Cyprus (TSO), as well as with representatives of the National Energy Company of Abu Dhabi PJSC (TAQA), in order to coordinate for the acceleration of the implementation of the electrical interconnection between Cyprus, Greece and Israel "Great Sea Interconnector".
The programme of meetings, convened in Nicosia at the initiative of Mr. Papanastasiou, began with a meeting between the Minister and the management of ADMIE, headed by its President and CEO Mr. Manos Manousakis. In this meeting, the main topics of discussion were the shareholding of "Great Sea Interconnector" and the investment interest that has been expressed.
This was followed by a meeting of Mr. Papanastasiou with representatives of TAQA, under Mr. Gabriele Manduzio, Senior Director of Distribution and Transmission Network Investments, which was held in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Finance. During the meeting the joint participation of the Republic of Cyprus and TAQA in the share capital of "Great Sea Interconnector" was discussed.
The last meeting chaired by the Minister of Energy, which was attended by all parties, discussed the individual issues and the close cooperation and coordination required for the rapid implementation of the project. It confirmed the importance of the electricity interconnection for the region and particularly for Cyprus, as its construction will remove energy isolation, accelerate the green transition and reduce the cost of electricity in the country.
