The Speaker of the House of Representatives and President of the Democratic Rally (DISY) Ms Anita Demetriou arrived today at the polling station of the Troullo Primary School, where she exercised her right to vote.

Subsequently, Mrs Demetriou made the following statement. I am very pleased. I want to say that today is a day of democracy. It is a day when citizens will express their democratic will through their vote. In the Democratic Rally we are optimistic about the result, that it will vindicate our policies. It is up to the members of the Democratic Alliance and all citizens to support the reform of local government, to support a strong Cyprus in Europe. Good vote to all, good stamina. See you this afternoon."

In response to a reporter's remark that this is the first election in which she is at the helm of the Democratic Rally and asked whether this election is a gamble, Ms Demetriou replied: "It is very important for the political stakes that we have been discussing all this time mainly in terms of vindicating the politicians, but also a correct course, which we want to ensure for our Cyprus and specifically for the reform of the Local Government, but mainly for the decisive battles in Europe. And there, yes, we must have the strongest team."

To a reporter's reference that the voter turnout seems to be satisfactory, Ms Demetriou replied. She said. Of course it will be a big day for all of us, when we will be on our feet. People must come. We must not let anyone else decide our future, our children's future, our country's future, but us. We are all responsible. We need the result to be exactly the kind of result that secures the future we want for ourselves and our children."
