The President of the EPP-Socialist Party (EPP) Mr.Marinos Sizopoulos arrived today at the polling station of the Neapolis Gymnasium in Limassol, where he exercised his right to vote.
Subsequently, Mr. Sizopoulos made the following statement. Voters should go to the polls and should calmly and responsibly make their choices. They should choose and vote for those representatives of local government who will be able to respond with the greatest possible degree of credibility to the problems and difficulties that will arise as a result of the new legislation concerning local government, and it is very important that we get off to a good start. The second is precisely the selection of our country's representatives in the European Parliament, an institution that plays a decisive role in our daily lives and beyond. We too, as the Republic of Cyprus, whose statehood and, above all, our entity is threatened by Turkey's expansionist policy, our representatives there should be able, through their cooperation with each other and their participation in key political groups in the European Parliament, to support the rights and just demands of our citizens and our country."
Asked to comment on whether the large number of candidates will push people to vote and win one of the big bets, which is abstention, Sizopoulos said: "We will see that down the road. Hopefully there will be a reduction in abstention and a more massive turnout. But we will see that at the end of this route. In closing, I would really like to thank those who staff the polling stations. And I regret to say that in most of the polling stations the conditions are unacceptable, to say the least. Therefore, I would really like once again to congratulate those people, who under these conditions offer their services in order to complete a democratic process."
