First Lady Filippa Carcera Christodoulides exercised her right to vote today, in the context of the elections for the Local Government of the occupied Famagusta Municipality, at Tsireios Gymnasium, Centre VI, in Limassol.
Mrs. Karsera Christodoulides, accompanied by her husband, President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, went to Tsiriyo High School.
After exercising her right to vote, the First Lady, in her statements to journalists and asked about the message she wants to send, said the following: "I exercised my right to vote first here at Chirio High School, where we vote for occupied municipalities. Today for Famagusta, for our city. It is very important, because it also contains a symbolism.
It is a day of democracy, to democratically choose the one they consider most worthy, most suitable, to represent on the one hand the interests of the refugee world. But first and foremost for me what is important is that our young representatives pass on to our children, to the new generations of refugees, the love for our land, to keep the memory alive in a modern, unifying way. This is the most important thing, which is why I hope that refugees will turn up en masse today."
Asked if the increased voter turnout is due to the increased number of candidates, the First Lady said that "it is a celebration of democracy, there are a lot of people, we should say good luck to those who are candidates. Also, good luck to all those who are working and may the people turn up, because as active citizens we must have an opinion, so that we can choose the best at our discretion."
