The Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Elricos A. Ilias, immediately after his statement at the "Theophilos Georgiades" Amphitheatre of the Press and Information Office on the percentage of voters' origin by 5 p.m, He answered questions from reporters.
Asked if there will be an extension of the election process, Mr. Ilias replied. From what they have assured me, there are no queues. If we need to give any extension, then we will say so. With the data we have so far, we will not. I would just like to ask the channels, because I understand that they are preparing the exit polls, to wait for my announcement that the voting has been completed and then proceed with the publication of the exit polls, that is in accordance with the law."
Asked when it is estimated that the results of the European elections will be published and when the local government results will be published, the Chief Electoral Officer said: "For the European elections anyway we cannot release the percentages and results until after 12 midnight, and that is when we estimate that such figures will be released that you will know about the percentages of the parties. We may not announce official results at that time, but how many MEPs will be elected or whether an individual candidate will be elected, we will know that at 12 midnight.
As for the other local government elections, I estimate that the flow of results will start around 7:30, when we will also know about the mayors, the deputy mayors, the chairmen of the Provincial Governing Bodies. There is a specific order in which the ballots and the preference crosses will be counted, it's just that for the seats on the City Councils, School Boards and Community Councils we will have to wait until Monday morning to give the people who will be elected. All others who do not need a cross-preference in combination, those we will know before midnight."
