At 7 a.m. voting began for the election of Members of the European Parliament, Local Authorities and School Boards.
A total of 698,896 persons are entitled to vote.
Polls opened in all 1,847 polling stations operating in the Republic of Cyprus, as well as in 10 polling stations in Greece.
At 9 a.m, Cyprus time, the polls are expected to open in Belgium and at 10 am, Cyprus time, the polls in the United Kingdom.
Voting started smoothly without any problems and will continue until 12 noon. After a one-hour break, it will resume at 1 p.m. and end at 6 p.m., when polls will close both in the Republic and abroad.
Note that in exceptional circumstances, the presiding officer of each polling station may extend voting hours until midnight at the latest if there is a large number of voters outside the polling station waiting to vote.
As the Chief Elections Officer, I urge all voters to come to the polls to exercise their right to vote. I wish everyone and everyone a good vote.
