The meetings reaffirmed the excellent relations between Cyprus and Armenia and the historical ties between the two peoples. The members of the delegation conveyed a heartfelt message of support and solidarity to the political leadership and the long-suffering people of Armenia. They noted that Cypriots are in a position to understand very well the pain caused by war and refugees and underlined Cyprus' readiness to offer humanitarian and financial assistance to Armenia to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Cyprus, Georgiades said, unequivocally condemns Azerbaijan's unprovoked attack against the Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and expresses its dismay at Azerbaijan's ethnic cleansing strategies.
Concern was expressed on both sides about Turkey's overt support for Azerbaijan's aggression and its involvement in Azerbaijan's plans to the detriment of Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, which, it was noted, is indicative of Turkey's long-standing transgressive and expansionist policy. It was underlined that Cyprus and Armenia face common challenges and a common will for cooperation at all levels was expressed. The urgent need to activate and exert the influence of the international community to prevent the implementation of such strategies that violate international law and create new defaults was stressed.
Finally, ways to further strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries and parliaments were discussed, particularly in the framework of international parliamentary organizations and other bodies.
