Interest in the Electric Vehicle Sponsorship Scheme is particularly high, as the first week's data shows, demonstrating that citizens recognise the benefits of electrification and the wider importance of the transition to green transport and sustainable mobility.
Phase 1 of the Scheme was launched on Monday, 20 December 2021, and will be completed on Monday, 3 January 2022, with a budget of €8 million. So far, a total of 4,269 applications have been submitted, which has exceeded the number of approvals to be granted under phase 1 for most vehicle categories.
Sponsorships are currently available for the following categories:
- Used electric taxi vehicle
- Used electric wheelchair accessible vehicle
- Mopeds - Motorcycles

As a reminder, the amounts available for the purchase of a new electric vehicle range from €9,000 to €19,000, while sponsorship amounts for the purchase of a used electric vehicle start from €4.000 and up to €12,000.
In addition, the applicant may, if he/she wishes, withdraw an old vehicle older than 12 years and receive an additional grant of €1,000.The additional amount of €1,000 is granted both in case of purchase of a new and used electric vehicle.
Finally, it should be noted that, if the application is pre-approved, the beneficiary has two months to provide proof of ordering the new/used electric vehicle and 12 months to register the electric vehicle. The grant is given upon registration of the vehicle, within 12 months of pre-approval.
