As of 1 January 2024, Cyprus has assumed the Presidency of the Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC) of the OSCE, the Vienna-based regional Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, in which 57 states participate.
During its four-month term of office, i.e. until April 2024, the Cyprus Presidency will be in charge of organising, setting the agenda and coordinating the weekly meetings of the FSC, one of the two autonomous decision-making bodies of the OSCE, which deals with a wide range of issues of a political-military nature. Cyprus will be assisted in its work by Canada and Croatia, the outgoing and incoming Presidencies of the Forum respectively, forming with them the FSC Troika.
In this context, on Friday 12 January 2024, the first meeting of the Troika was held, which marked the beginning of the official work of the Cyprus Presidency of the FSC. During the meeting, Cyprus' Permanent Representative to the OSCE and Chairman of the FSC, Ambassador Andreas Ignatiou, stressed that Cyprus assumes the Chairmanship with a high sense of responsibility, being fully aware of the challenges facing the Organisation due to geopolitical developments.
During the meeting the programme of the FSC for the current four months was discussed, as well as the preparation of the first plenary session of the Forum, which will be chaired by Cyprus and will take place on Wednesday, 17 January 2024, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Constantinos Kombou.
