Yesterday, Wednesday, 20 September 2023, Foreign Minister Dr Konstantinos Kombos had a series of contacts and meetings in the framework of the High Level Week of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York.
Mr. Kombos had a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Switzerland, Mr. Ignazio Cassis, during which issues of mutual interest, including EU-Swiss relations, were discussed. The Foreign Minister briefed his counterpart on the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, as well as on our side's efforts to resume negotiations.
In a meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister Dr Riad Malki, the commitment of the two sides to strengthen contacts and deepen bilateral relations was confirmed. The Cyprus problem and the Middle East peace process were also discussed.
Mr. Kobos then met with the Foreign Minister of Andorra, Ms. Imma Tor Faus, with whom he exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral relations. The Foreign Minister reiterated Cyprus' support for the conclusion of the negotiations of the EU-Small States Association Agreement.
In a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Guyana, Mr Hugh Todd, ways of further deepening Cyprus-Guyanese relations, both at bilateral and international level, were discussed.
During his meeting with the Foreign Minister of Lebanon, Mr Abdallah Bou Habib, the latest developments in the Cyprus issue were discussed. The two officials had the opportunity to exchange views on the migration issue, as well as on current regional developments.
In the framework of a meeting with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Kulubaev Zheenbek Moldokanovich, a Memorandum of Understanding for Political Consultations was signed between the two countries, with the aim of strengthening their relations.
Yesterday's round of bilateral contacts was concluded with a meeting with the Albanian Foreign Minister Igli Hasani, which focused on the further strengthening of bilateral relations, the Cyprus issue and the process of Albania's EU accession negotiations.
In the evening, Mr. In the evening, Mr. Kobos attended a dinner hosted by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on transatlantic relations.
In the morning, the Foreign Minister attended the President's address to the United Nations General Assembly and signed, on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction.
