This is the moment to highlight the historical interconnection of Cyprus with France
Important contacts were held last weekend in Paris by Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis, in the framework of the participation of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism in the major tourism exhibition of Paris IFTM 2023.
Specifically, Mr. Koumis had a series of meetings with leading executives of tourism organizations that run tourism programmes to our country, where they exchanged views both on the impressive course recorded this year by the French market and on the prospects for the new year, which, according to current indications, are positive.
The Deputy Minister also had an hour-long meeting with the Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mr. Makram Al Queisi, where they discussed ways of closer cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism, with particular emphasis on the creation of joint tourist packages, a topic that was also discussed in the recent past.
Among the highlights of the exhibition, the participation of the Deputy Minister of Tourism of our country, during the opening day of the exhibition yesterday, in a panel discussion that attracted great interest, on the topic of sustainable tourism development.
The panel discussion was also attended by the Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mr. Makram Al Queisi, the Minister of Tourism of Costa Rica Mr. William Rodriquez and the CEO of Atout Franceka Caroline Leboucher. Koumis, after presenting some of the actions that are currently being taken or have been taken in the past in this direction, praised the increased presence of French visitors this year and also spoke about the historical link between the two countries, taking into account that our country has been a kingdom of the Lusignans for about 3 centuries.
Mr. Koumis gave interviews to French media, analyzing the comparative advantages and the many qualitative choices that a visitor can enjoy in our country.
In his statements after the contacts in Paris, Mr. Koumis said.
We have been informed by the front-line operators about the level of satisfaction of French visitors, which is very high and this fills us with optimism.
I think that now is the right time to invest more in this market, in terms of product and promotional material. Just today we have decided to create new material aimed at the French market.
The most important thing is to make the historical link between our country and France, as the Kingdom of the Lusignans, widely known. I was delighted by the reaction of those present yesterday at the round table discussion when we made this reference. It is an indication that there is something to invest in here.
It is well known that French tourists are very much cultural visitors and are fond of excursions focused on historical pursuits. There is the historical connection, there is the history and we certainly need to highlight it.
Our responsibility is to develop a product and promotional material for the French market."
