[PIO] Contacts of the Deputy Minister of Tourism at the UNWTO Informal Session in Saudi Arabia

Important contacts were made during the last three days in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Mr. Costas Koumis, in the framework of the UNWTO Informal Session.

This year, the World Tourism Organization has chosen the capital of Saudi Arabia for the celebrations of World Tourism Day, organizing a conference.

During the conference, Mr. Koumis had separate meetings with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Mr. Zurab Pololikasvhili, the Deputy Minister of International Relations of the Ministry of Tourism of Saudi Arabia Mr. Sultan Al. Musallam, the Minister of Tourism of Israel Mr. Mr. Haim Katz, Minister of Tourism of Israel and Mr. Clayton Bartolo, Minister of Tourism of Malta.

During the conference, he also met with representatives of other countries as well as with private institutions.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism also met with the President of the Saudi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Sultan Al-Ajlan. Mr. Koumis also participated in a roundtable discussion on public-private sector cooperation.

The discussion was attended by Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister of Investment Mr. Saleh Ali Khabti, Barcelo Group President Raul Gonzalez and Saudi Arabia's Head of Strategic Planning Mr. Badr Alherbish. During his remarks, Mr Kumis said, among other things, the following.

-The responsibility of the private sector, which is not really a responsibility but a decision, is to target investments and take initiatives, which always involve a certain amount of risk.

This is generally a topic that is always discussed in tourism forums.

-Public-private cooperation is not always easy, but without it we cannot have a truly competitive product and services.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, after referring to specific examples of public-private sector cooperation, focused on partnerships between countries and the benefits that result from them.

He even suggested the creation of joint packages between Cyprus and Saudi Arabia, focusing his introduction on the NEOM city under construction in Saudi Arabia, located in the North of the country and about two hours away from Cyprus.

It is noted that the intention of the Saudi Arabian government is for the city to attract high-level visitors from all over the world.
