[PIO] Completion of Quadrennial Aeronautical Exercise "ENOMY-4/2023"

The quadrilateral aeronautical exercise between Cyprus, Greece, France and Italy, called "EUNOMIA-4/2023", was completed today, which has been conducted continuously since 2020 in the framework of the Quadrilateral Cooperation (QUADRIPARTITE INITIATIVE - QUAD), with the realization of the final phase, which was also the Distinguished Visitor Day (DV-Day).

The DV Day was held on board the French Navy frigate CHEVALIER PAUL, which also coordinated this year's exercise, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Cypriot President, Mr. Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the President of the Republic of Cyprus.

Also in attendance were the Minister of Defence Mr Michalis Giorgallas, the French Ambassador Mrs Salina Grenet-Catalano and the Chief of the National Guard Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas. On behalf of the Chiefs of Defence of France, Greece and Italy, the Operational Commander of the French Forces in the Mediterranean, Vice Admiral Gilles Boidevezi, the Fleet Commander of Greece, Vice Admiral Dimitrios - Eleftherios Kataras, and the Fleet Commander of Italy, Vice Admiral Aurelio De Carolis, participated.

The scenarios of the exercise included maritime interdiction operations, countering asymmetric threats, anti-aircraft and anti-submarine operations, execution of advanced maneuvering and communications exercises, execution of surface firing, activation of the air defence system of the trainee naval units and the Air Command of the National Guard with the execution of land target attack missions, air drills and low-level navigation flights, as well as Search and Rescue (SAR) missions under the coordination of the Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (SRCC).

The exercise involved the IOANNIDIS PATH, Coastal Patrol Boats, Air Defence Units and helicopter AW-139 of the National Guard, the F/V Psara, submarines, EWAC early warning aircraft and F-16 aircraft of the Hellenic Armed Forces, the F/V CHEVALIER PAUL, the SEINE and RAFALE aircraft of the French SS, the BORSINI aircraft, C-AEW early warning aircraft and UAVs of the Italian SS, as well as Submarine Disaster and Special Operations Groups of the four countries.

The Chief of the National Guard, at the conclusion of the final phase, after congratulating the participants, noted that in addition to the messages at the strategic level, the exercise contributed to increasing interoperability between the Naval and Air Forces at the operational and tactical levels, as well as the ability to coordinate joint actions in international waters, by planning and conducting a wide range of aeronautical operations.

The conduct of Exercise EUNOMIA for the fourth consecutive year is a confirmation of the declared intention, commitment and capacity of Cyprus, Greece, France, Greece and Italy to cooperate in order to maintain regional stability and maritime security, as well as to ensure freedom of navigation in international waters.
