Further to my announcement, dated. 2/7/2024, regarding the publication and reposting on social networking sites by various individuals of a school photograph showing pupils and teachers, and in which the full names of pupils are listed, I wish to inform the public of the following.

  1. I have launched an ex officio investigation against an individual who appears to have made the original posting, whose positions will be assessed and the course of the investigation will be decided accordingly, including the actions of the Police.
  1. Three of the users who had reposted the photo have deleted it after being contacted by my office.
  1. Eight people deleted the post or blurred the faces and names on their own, possibly due to the publicity the issue received from posts on social media and in the press, my Office's announcement and journalistic broadcasts.
  1. One of the posts appears to have been deleted following a direct report by my Office on social media.
  1. On 4/7/2024, my Office forwarded to the Police ten additional posts it had identified, in which the data subjects were identified (faces and names were not blurred) for identification of the users and/or deletion of the posts. In the meantime, five of these ten posts have been deleted. The Police have informed me that so far they have identified details of the individuals who have made two of the above posts. Investigation of these two cases is ongoing.
  1. I have also sent a letter to the Greek Protection Authority in relation to two repostings, which appear to have been made by residents of Greece.

My office is in contact with the Police for further coordinated action.
