[PIO] Closed consultations on the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus

The UN Security Council held closed consultations on Monday, 17 January 2022, on the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), chaired by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Norway, Ambassador Odd-Inge Kvalheim.

During the two hours of consultations, the members of the Security Council were briefed by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus and Head of UNFICYP, Mr. Colin Stewart, on the situation and recent developments in Cyprus, in view of the vote on the adoption of the resolution on the renewal of the mandate of the peacekeeping force. UNFICYP's mandate expires on 31 January 2022 and the Security Council is expected to renew its mandate for a further six months at an open meeting on 27 January 2022.
