The Civil Defence Force informs the public that no serious damage or injuries have been reported from the strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale, which occurred at 03.08 in the morning and was felt throughout Cyprus and especially in the Paphos District. The members of the Civil Defence Operations Control Centre, immediately after the occurrence of the earthquake, contacted the competent Services/Local Authorities of the Paphos District, in order to make a first assessment of the situation and to determine whether any serious incidents occurred. The Civil Defence Force was immediately put on standby, but its teams did not have to intervene.
The Minister of Interior Mr. Nikos Nouris contacted by telephone the community leaders of the communities of the Paphos District, where the earthquake was particularly felt, to ascertain whether there were any damages and to express the readiness of the services of the Ministry of Interior to assist wherever necessary.
