In order to better inform consumers ahead of the Christmas holidays, the Consumer Protection Agency has completed a survey to collect data on the retail price levels of fresh meat and delicatessen products for prices prevailing on the 16th of December.12.2021.
For fresh meat, prices were obtained from 90 points of sale (large and small supermarkets and neighbourhood butchers), and for delicatessen products from 49 points of sale (large supermarkets and bakeries). The Observatory covers all provinces.
The publication of the Christmas Observatory is a useful information tool for consumers, strengthening their ability to carry out market research and make the most advantageous purchases. Moreover, it adds more transparency to the overall market picture and helps to promote competition.
The Consumer Protection Office clarifies that the Price Observatory is prepared solely for the purpose of assisting/general information to consumers and does not constitute advice under any circumstances. Price Observations are not intended to and cannot replace the market research to be carried out by each consumer on the basis of his or her own preferences, data and needs, nor are they intended to indicate to consumers the outlets to choose.
For the products included in this Observatory in particular, it is stressed that there are qualitative differences which cannot be taken into account in the results of a Price Observatory.
To this end, the Consumer Protection Bureau urges consumers to conduct meaningful market research before making purchases in order to find products and prices that meet their requirements and to check what they are paying for and what they are getting.
Finally, it is emphasized that the prices presented in each Price Watch publication refer to prices on the specific dates that price taking has been conducted, i.e., December 16, 2021 for this particular case.
