Applying contemporary art and museum education practices, the programme "Saturday Mornings: fun at the gallery", implemented by the Department of Contemporary Culture of the Ministry of Culture, aims to demonstrate ways of approaching contemporary artistic creation by children aged 7-12 years old.
Through the interactive Artist Talks and children's interaction with the guest contemporary artists and their practice, the aim is to develop artistic literacy and an understanding of the social role of art on the basis of two parameters: viewing/discussing art and producing/creating art. The ultimate aim of the programme is to contribute the experiences, knowledge, skills and attitudes that the children will gain to their development as creative and conscious viewers and producers of art.
The themes of the workshops draw inspiration from the works in the permanent exhibition of the State Gallery as well as from the works and practice of the guest artists. During the workshops, children will come into contact and experiment with a variety of artistic techniques, media and materials.
Design and implementation: Elena Panagiotou (museum educator) and Panagiotis Andreou (visual artist).
