[PIO] Announcements of the Department of Public Works for works in the Districts of Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos

1. Greening of central islands in Nicosia

The Nicosia District Public Works Engineer's Office, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that from Saturday 1/6/2024 until Saturday 15/6/2024, the Municipality of Strovolos will carry out greenings of the central islands on parts of the following roads in the Nicosia Urban Area from Saturday 1/6/2024 until Saturday 15/6/2024:

  1. Avenue. Strovolos Avenue from the junction with Strovolos Avenue. Strovolos, from the intersection with Arch. Kyprianou Street to Agios Stylianos Street (1-2 & 8-9 June 2024-weekend between 7:00-16:00),
  2. St. George Avenue from the junction with Arch. Independence Avenue (3-4 June 2024 between 9:00-17:00),
  3. 25th of March Avenue (5 June 2024 between 9:00-17:00),
  4. 25th of March Avenue (5 June 2024 between 9:00-17:00),
  5. 25th of June 2024 between 9:00-17:00),
  6. 25th of June 2024 between 9:00-17:00). Vikelas and C. Kranidioti (6-7 June 2024 between 9:30-17:00),
  7. Ave. Archangelos from the junction with Ave. Antis Hadjikostis to Agios Alexiou Street (10-12 June 2024 - between 9:30-12:45),
  8. Lefkotheou Street from the junction with Ave. Archangelou Street to Agia Anna Street (12 June 2024 (between 9:00-12:00),
  9. Roundabout and islands at the junction with Archangelou Avenue (12 June 2024 between 9:00-12:00),
  10. Roundabout and islands at the junction with Archangelou Avenue (12 June 2024 between 9:00-12:00). Cheriou Avenue and Avenue. Spyrou Kyprianou without affecting traffic (13 June 2024 between 9:00-12:00),
  11. Avenue and the intersections at the intersection of Ch. (14 June 2024 between the hours of 9:30-14:00),
  12. Ave. Spyrou Kyprianou from the junction with Ave. Strovolos Avenue to Strovolos Avenue. (15 June 2024 between 9:30-12:45).

During the execution of the works, the adjacent traffic lane of the central island will be partially closed for approximately 100-200m at a time and traffic will be diverted to the adjacent traffic lane.

2. Replacement of traffic signal equipment in Limassol and Paphos areas

The Department of Public Works, Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that from 25/3/2024 the replacement of obsolete traffic signal equipment by a private company will start in 47 light-controlled intersections and 31 Pelican-type pedestrian crossings in the Limassol and Paphos area, with a new type of Extra Low Voltage (ELV) with LED lamps, a Pedestrian Countdown system and a touch-type pedestrian demand system.

The equipment replacement work at each location will be completed within one day except for contingency and during the work the light-controlled intersections and pedestrian crossings will remain out of service. If necessary, temporary traffic lights will be installed, which may change the existing operation of the traffic lights until the end of the work. Also, some right turn lanes may be temporarily removed for safety reasons.

During the week of 27/5/2024 - 02/6/2024, work will be carried out at the intersections / pedestrian crossings. The Department of Public Works apologizes for the inevitable inconvenience that will be caused and invites the public to show the necessary understanding and comply with the temporary road signs and the instructions of the Police.
