The Secretariat for Coordination and Support of Government Work, the establishment of which is included in the Governance Programme of the President of the Republic, under the pillar "Restructuring of the State" comes into effect today.
The aim and mission of the Secretariat, which will operate under the supervision of the Deputy Minister to the President, is to strengthen the work of the Government, within the framework of the executive state, in terms of comprehensive monitoring and coordination in the implementation of policies, the promotion of reforms and the implementation of projects, on the basis of strategic planning and in cooperation with all relevant Ministries and Deputy Ministries.
The establishment of the Secretariat follows good practices of many other European countries, whose respective mechanisms have been instrumental in streamlining processes and timely implementation of their government policies.
The Secretariat will be staffed by 12 officials from the public and wider public sector. These officials were selected through the internal labour market mechanism and following an open call for expressions of interest.
The President's Governance Programme is our great social contract, which was approved by the people in the last elections. The implementation of the Governance Programme is a non-negotiable task for the Government. The establishment of the Government Coordination and Support Secretariat will be a key supportive and efficient mechanism for the implementation of the objectives of governance.
