In the framework of the cooperation between the Office of the Gender Equality Commissioner and the Association of Municipalities and the implementation of the annual Action Plan for Gender Equality in Local Government, the new infrastructure for families was presented today at the premises of the Municipal Hall and the Theatre of Strovolos Municipality.

The infrastructure includes a breastfeeding and breast milk pumping room, a parking space for families with baby strollers, as well as changing rooms in the sanitary facilities for women and men.

Speaking at the event, Gender Equality Commissioner Ms. Josie Christodoulou stressed the importance of cooperation between her Office and the Local Government. She stressed that such actions are not only symbolic, but also actively help to establish a culture of equality between women and men. Gender equality, she noted, is an issue that affects our daily lives and in this context, the Office cooperates with all stakeholders and at all levels. In the context of this cooperation, he added, local government cannot be absent, which is closer to all citizens on a daily basis. The Commissioner expressed her satisfaction with the implementation of four of the five actions of the Plan in the Strovolos Municipality. Papacharalambous, after thanking the Commissioner for the excellent cooperation, stressed the importance that the Municipality attaches to gender equality through the new infrastructure, as well as relevant staff training, with the ultimate goal of changing attitudes and the equal and more humane treatment of all citizens.

This was followed by a tour of the new infrastructure for media representatives and a training presentation by an Officer of the Commissioner's Office to the staff of the Municipality on gender equality issues.
