Today, the Council of Ministers approved the new National Strategy for Gender Equality for the period 2024 - 2026. Gender Equality Commissioner Ms. Josie Christodoulou welcomes this development, as the Strategy is a powerful tool for the implementation of horizontal gender mainstreaming in state policies.
The National Strategy is the result of cooperation and consultation with all Ministries, Deputy Ministries, the National Mechanism for Women's Rights, civil society, employers' organisations, trade unions and academic institutions. The Strategy was formulated on the basis of national and European legislation and policies, as well as international conventions and guidance documents.
The Strategy is the political guiding document for the promotion of gender equality through gender mainstreaming in policies and actions of all Ministries and Deputy Ministries on a horizontal basis and includes a total of 13 thematic sections with 66 targeted and implementable actions.
The new National Strategy for Gender Equality entered into force in January 2024.
The new National Strategy for Gender Equality entered into force in January 2024. Its coordination, monitoring and evaluation - as decided by the Council of Ministers - has been entrusted to the Commissioner for Gender Equality and is carried out in close cooperation with all Ministries and Deputy Ministries.
