Communications Assistant Commissioner Petros Galidis has officially taken over as Chair of the European Mediterranean Regulators Group for Electronic Communications Networks and Services (EMERG) for the year 2024, after one year of co-chairing the organisation with Israel.
EMERG was established on 1 July 2008 in Malta as an independent platform of the National Regulators of Mediterranean and European countries for electronic communications networks and services. The member countries of EMERG are: Albania, Austria, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Spain, Slovenia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey. The principles of EMERG derive from the ideals and principles of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation set out in the Barcelona Declaration of 28 November 1995, which establishes the principles of a cooperative relationship aimed at establishing the Mediterranean region as a common area of peace, stability and prosperity by strengthening political dialogue and cooperation in the fields of security, economy, society and culture.
