The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare welcomes the unanimous approval by the Plenum of the House of Representatives of the amendment bill on the provision of Child Benefit.

The purpose of the Bill is to amend the Child Benefit Provision Act to increase the child benefit by 5% to all beneficiaries and to include students of large families in the child benefit. Specifically, this amendment grants the right to receive a child allowance at a rate of 50% of the total amount of the allowance to large families with four or more children who have dependent children who are students up to 23 years old or male students up to 24 years old, provided they have served their military service in the National Guard.

The above two provisions of the Law have retroactive effect as of 1 January 2024. Details on the date and method of payment will be announced at a later stage.

Strengthening support for families and large families is a political priority of the Ministry of Social Welfare based on the implementation of the Governance Programme of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr.
