The Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance is pleased that the House of Representatives has voted in favour of the bill submitted by the Government for better regulation of the standing of workers.
The new provision of the legislation upgrades the safety and health levels for workers performing tasks involving prolonged standing, and is based on the best practices prepared and published by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU OSHA) on the issues of standing in workplaces.
In particular, the amending legislation provides that the written risk assessment, which each employer is obliged to carry out, is supplemented by a risk assessment of the risks related to the exposure of workers to prolonged standing, and depending on the conclusions, the obligation to take appropriate measures through the provision of seating or organisational measures for rest from standing.
The government bill was formulated through the social dialogue, in which the social partners participated in the Pancyprian Safety and Health Council, and the political debate developed in the Parliamentary Labour Committee, as well as the Public Consultation conducted by the Labour Inspection Department and the consultation with the members of the Labour Advisory Board.
Better regulation of work is a government priority highlighted in practice through today's approval of the bill on standing, the recent approval of the bill on teleworking, the issuance of the decree on heat stress of workers providing for work stoppage in cases of high temperatures and other similar decisions affecting thousands of workers, upgrading working terms and conditions.
