The Council of Ministers approved yesterday, 15.11.2023, a draft law amending the legislation on Safety and Health at Work through which the levels of Safety and Health for workers performing work tasks involving prolonged standing are upgraded.
Specifically, the amending legislation provides that in accordance with the written risk assessment, which each employer is required to carry out, the parameter of risk assessment relating to the exposure of workers to prolonged standing is added and, depending on the conclusions, the obligation to take appropriate measures through the provision of seating or organisational measures for rest from standing arises.
It is noted that the revision of Article 27 of the legislation takes into account the best practices prepared and published by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) on the issues of standing in workplaces.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance took into account the views of the social partners participating in the Pancyprian Council for Safety and Health, the results of the Public Consultation conducted by the competent Labour Inspectorate Department and the consultation with the members of the Labour Advisory Board.
