[PIO] Announcement of the Ministry of Education on the assessment of students in secondary education

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth (YΠΠPAΝ) has released the evaluation made by our teachers in all Lyceums and Technical Schools. Which was done in the same way as it was done in the two previous school years (with some practical improvements in the handling of the whole project).

Yesterday's public statement of the Vice President of OELMEK, who questioned these data, is actually a questioning of the work of the evaluation of students done by thousands of our teachers.

As everyone knows, the Ministry always has the data it collects from all schools and it reflects the activity of our teachers and students. It is difficult to see how these can be questioned.

The Ministry of Education expresses its support for the work of teachers, including that relating to pupil assessment, and refutes any attempt to question it. Our teachers and schools make every effort to carry out their work to the best of their ability. When some, through aphoristic interventions, effectively nullify their work, it does not do a good service to education.

It is understandable that in any assessment process not everyone can be "happy". But an evaluation does not have such a goal. What matters is not the assessment per se, but the learning outcomes. Which exist whether or not there is an assessment. However, it is good and useful to be aware of them.

It should be reiterated that any attempt to undermine assessment essentially amounts to an orientation towards an education divorced from value. It goes without saying that for there to be values in education there must be assessment.
