The Parliamentary and Participatory Democracy Foundation of the House of Representatives and the Academy of the Legal Service of the Republic are organising on Wednesday, 3 April 2024 a scientific conference on administrative law, to which prominent personalities of the legal world of Cyprus and Greece have been invited and will participate, judges, academics, lawyers and government officials with expertise in administrative law issues, who with their renowned knowledge, authority and expertise are expected to contribute to an in-depth understanding of issues of particular interest to the Cypriot legal order. The ultimate aim is to extend by law the jurisdiction of the administrative courts to administrative disputes of substance, as well as to discuss issues relating to ensuring compliance by the administration with the decisions of the administrative courts, an issue which has been plaguing Cypriot society and state.

As is well known, in the context of the recently enacted wide-ranging judicial reform and on the basis of the Seventeenth Amendment to the Constitution, the necessary constitutional basis for the full extension by law of the jurisdiction of the administrative courts has already been created.

In this regard, the contributions of the distinguished Greek guests and their interaction with Cypriot jurists of the same calibre are expected to form the basis for an in-depth study of the complex procedural issue of judicial review of administrative disputes on the merits, as well as the establishment of the most legally sound ways of supervising the enforcement of such decisions for the benefit of the governed.

The conference will be held at the Ceremonial Hall of the University of Cyprus at Kallipoleos Street in Nicosia.
