The Ethics and Sports Protection Committee at its meeting of 06/12/2023 studied the situation as it has been created after the announcement of the finding on the red envelopes and clarifies that some issues remain pending for the Commission due to the fact that Law 180(1)/2017 does not allow the Commission to proceed with the investigation of perhaps the most important issue arising from the red files.
This issue is whether the existence of the red envelopes and the handling of them by the Cyprus Football Federation (CFF) has in any way affected the conduct of the League.
In the conclusion, on page 111 it is stated by the Investigating Officers that: "The issue of whether or not the League was influenced needs further investigation or may be the subject of a separate investigation."
It should be borne in mind, however, that, in our view, the existing legislation does not cover acts of League manipulation in its entirety.
The Commission has already completed work on amending the Act and should the House of Representatives approve the amendments, it will then decide in the new Act whether to order an investigation into League manipulation, always in conjunction with the red envelope case.
