The Ethics and Sports Protection Committee announces that on 13 October 2023 it had a meeting with the Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus, during which there was an exchange of views on better coordination between the Committee and the Attorney General's Office and an exchange of views on the progress of the investigations.
During the meeting, the issue of the decision of the Attorney General not to proceed with criminal proceedings against two persons who refused to appear before the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee and/or its Investigating Officers was also discussed.
During the briefing it was established that the Prosecutor General was right not to proceed with a criminal prosecution, given that the evidence available did not justify such action.
The two sides agreed to have regular contacts to better coordinate their investigations and reaffirmed their commitment to fight corruption in sport.
