[PIO] Announcement of the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee for the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between EDPA and EPATHLA

On Tuesday, 11 June 2024, the Vice President of the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee (EDPA), Mr.Efthimios Efthymiou, travelled to Athens, where he signed, on behalf of the Committee, a Memorandum of Cooperation and Understanding with the National Platform for Sports Integrity (EPATHLA) of Greece.

On behalf of EPATHLA, the Memorandum was signed by the Secretary General of Sports and President of EPATHLA, Mr. George Mavrotas.

The purpose of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Platforms of the two countries is to develop all kinds of synergies to combat the manipulation of sports competitions.

The Memorandum provides, inter alia:

1. the cooperation of the parties for the joint design, promotion and implementation of information, education and awareness-raising programmes and actions
2. the cooperation and exchange of information on the legislative and regulatory framework for combating the manipulation of sports matches in Greece and Cyprus
3. the cooperation in the bodies of the Council of Europe and the European Union on issues relating to the fight against match manipulation and the promotion of the Macolin Convention
4. the encouragement of athletes, but more generally of anyetc.), to submit reports concerning incidents of manipulation in the field of sport through the Reporting Mechanisms of EPATHLA, as well as through the reporting mechanisms of the EDPS.

As part of the signing of the Memorandum, it was agreed that the first solemn meeting of the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee with the National Platform for Sports Integrity in Greece will take place in Ancient Olympia, in the spring of 2025.
