The Department of Public Works of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that on 24 May 2024 the tenders for the project "Supply, installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of a new Urban Traffic Control (UTC) system in Nicosia and Limassol" (No. Tender No: PS/60/2022/G(O)). In particular, three tenders were submitted by the following companies:
- Hellenic Technical Enterprises Ltd
- M.K. TTS Ltd
- AIRCONTROL LTD
The cost estimate amounts to €7.13 million (+VAT) and includes a 24-month execution period and a five-year maintenance period. The tender includes two envelopes, technical and financial. The Public Works Department will proceed with the evaluation of the submitted tenders.
The aim of the project is to improve traffic management, which will increase the traffic capacity of the road network, reduce vehicle journey times and improve road safety. The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the Cohesion Policy, EU Programme "THALIA 2021-2027".
The proposed system will be implemented in 125 light-controlled intersections in Nicosia (75) and Limassol (50). In addition, it has the potential to connect up to 500 light-controlled intersections nationwide for remote access monitoring.
The system will collect traffic data from sensors placed at key points of the road network in urban areas, process them in real time and provide instructions on how to operate traffic lights.
