The Department of Contemporary Culture - Deputy Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Nicosia Dance House announces an Open Call for professional dance-performers to participate in an Artist Hosting Programme at the State Gallery of Contemporary Art - Majestic, during the period May - June 2024 and September - October 2024.
The Programme aims to promote synergies between the arts in the context of the operation of the State Gallery, to highlight the multimodality of the works in the permanent exhibition as well as their alternative narratives, to attract different audience groups and to promote the work of contemporary Cypriot artists. Proposals should relate and communicate with the permanent exhibition of the State Gallery (works and artists) and/or the site (architecture, history and function). The selected artists will have the opportunity to regularly visit, listen and spend time in the spaces of the State Gallery, developing their research and practice in dialogue with the permanent exhibition.
Applications may be submitted by professional dance-performers who are Cypriot nationals or artists who have been professionally active in Cyprus for the last 5 years. The application can be for Solo, Duo or Group work.
Applicants should be able to visit the State Gallery - Majestic for their research for a minimum of 15 hours per week and implement three public activities during their residency: a seminar/participatory workshop, a discussion/lecture and a performance (in progress) at the end of the Residency Programme.
Interested parties are encouraged to attend one of the information sessions to be held at the State Gallery - Majestic on Saturday 9 March 2024 (13:00-15:00) and Tuesday 19 March 2024 (14:00-16:00).
