The first of a series of information/training workshops on the national specification - Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) System was organized yesterday, with over 50 participants, at the premises of the University of Limassol (Nicosia branch). The workshops are organised by the Co-operative Societies Service, with the support of the Office of the Environment Commissioner, CSR Cyprus and the University of Limassol.
The Cyprus Standards Organisation (CYS), in cooperation with the Co-operative Societies Service, undertook the task of drafting the national specification and therefore participated as a keynote speaker through its General Manager, Ms Athina Panagiotou. Initially, Ms Panagiotou referred to the standardization work carried out at international, European and national level in relation to CSR, with special reference to the ISO 26000 standard and the process followed at national level for the submission of the national vote during the public review of the draft standard. He then highlighted the long-standing cooperation with the relevant government departments, which started in 2016, in order to achieve the current deliverable of the national specification, which was prepared by the national standardization body of Cyprus, CYS. Subsequently, Ms Panagiotou referred to the provisions of the national specification and presented the purpose, the implementation framework and the necessary criteria/requirements to be followed by the interested companies/organizations in order to achieve their inclusion in the National CSR Registry. Finally, Ms Panagiotou presented the procedure for successful implementation of the requirements of the national specification, which may lead to the certification of the enterprise or organization by an accredited certification body, as well as the benefits resulting from the certification process of the CSR management system.
The successful implementation of the requirements of the national specification and the acquisition of the corresponding certificate of compliance is a prerequisite for the inclusion of the interested enterprises/organizations in the National CSR Register. During the workshop, the procedure for applying for registration in the computerised register was also presented.
