We are soon heading towards the end of 2023, about halfway through the "European Year of Skills" as declared by the European Commission last May. The aim is to strengthen lifelong learning and to acquire the knowledge and skills needed by the workforce of businesses and services, thus contributing to their competitiveness, sustainable growth and innovation.

For the Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS), all of the above are an essential part of its mission, and for this reason it has set as a permanent objective the implementation of a number of actions, through which various professionals, undergraduate and postgraduate students, members of associations and organized groups, acquire knowledge and skills concerning standardisation and the standards development process, active participation in standardisation and the use of the relevant electronic tools, as well as the implementation of specific standards, depending on their field of activity.

In this context, CYS, through its Officer Ms Elena Demosthenous, in cooperation with the European University Cyprus (EUC) and Lecturer Dr. Cleo Varyanou Mikellidou, two lectures to the students of the MSc in Occupational Safety and Health programme on the interpretation and use of the European Harmonised Standards concerning Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the implementation requirements of the International and European Standard CYS EN ISO 45001 for Occupational Safety and Health Management.

In addition, in cooperation with the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY) and the Head of the Quality Procedures and Network Unit, Dr. Nicolas Nicolaou, a lecture on the use and implementation of Medical Equipment and Quality Management standards was held at the Limassol General Hospital, which was attended by about 70 health professionals, in the context of the continuous strengthening of their knowledge and skills.
