Today, 3 July 2024, the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (LRCRC) responded to two (2) incidents involving bathers in distress.
Specifically, at 16:15, a tip-off was received regarding a young bather in distress in the Larnaca Bay marine area. The KSEED immediately mobilized a speedboat of the Larnaca District Administration's lifeguard unit, a speedboat of the Port and Maritime Police, an ambulance of the Ambulance Service of the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO), as well as a foot patrol of the Larnaca Police Directorate. The young woman was found and recovered unconscious by the rescue boat crews, who handed her over to the ambulance, which had been called to the shore. The young woman was delivered to the Larnaca General Hospital, where she was unfortunately pronounced dead.
In a second incident, at 18:45, a tip-off was received concerning a beachgoer, in the Ladies Mile sea area in Limassol, who was being swept away by the strong currents in the area, while rowing, asking for help. The KSEED immediately mobilised a speedboat of the Coast and Maritime Police, which rushed to the area where it located and safely recovered the person in question.
