"How can I set up my business with circular economy principles: Design and implementation"
The first workshop on green skills development for SMEs, organised by the Environment Commissioner's Office and CSR Cyprus (Cyprus Network for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility), is approaching.
The workshop, which is the first of a series of five training activities co-organised by the two organisations and which will take place on Tuesday 10 October 2023, at the Cultural Centre of Strovolos Municipality, focuses on the circular economy and has the theme "How can I set up my business with circular economy principles: planning and implementation". It aims to give participants all the necessary information from experts in the field. Specifically, two academics with expertise in circular economy issues, Associate Professor of the Open University Mr. Antonis Zorpas and Professor at the Circular Economy Research Center, École des Ponts Business School Mr. George Demetriou, will develop all those tools that are necessary for a successful implementation of circular economy principles in Cypriot SMEs. At the same time, they will explain what are the medium and long-term benefits for businesses from the adoption of these principles, as well as opportunities for European funding.
Subsequently, the managers of two Cypriot SMEs that are implementing circular economy principles in practice will explain through their practical experience the process of adopting circular economy principles. More specifically, they are Loizos Tofas, Director of the company "Planty, The Hydroponic Way" and Evtichios Vassiliadis, Director of the company "Dinos Poupas Plastics". Mr. Tofas and Mr. Vassiliadis will explain the problems they encountered and how they overcame them, as well as what advantages they identify through the application of circular economy principles in their businesses.
Finally, Mr. Christos Fotiadis, Director of Industry and Technology of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, will present the current funding plans for the implementation of circular economy principles by the same Ministry.
The workshop, supported by the Municipality of Strovolos, is open to the public and will take place between 9:00 and 9:00.45 a.m. and 1.00 p.m.
