[PIO] Announcement by the Office of the Commissioner for Citizens' Rights on the first meeting of the reactivation of the Consultation Mechanism with

The Office of the Ombudsman, in cooperation with the Pancyprian Coordinating Committee for the Protection and Welfare of Children (PCCPWC), held a meeting today at the Presidential Palace for the reactivation of the Consultation Mechanism with the Cyprus Children's Council, which consists of representatives of the Ministries of Education, Sports and Youth, Labour and Social Insurance, Justice and Public Order, Health, State Ministry of Welfare, the Commissioner for the Protection of Children's Rights and the Cyprus Children's Parliament.

During the meeting, the Commissioner for Citizens, Mr Panagiotis Palates, after welcoming the attendees, stressed the will of both the President of the Republic and himself personally to give another step to the voice of young people. In particular, through the institution of the Children's Parliament, children have the opportunity and the possibility to express their concerns and worries. He continued, stating that the Commissioner's Office will assume a coordinating role between the Cyprus Children's Parliament and the Ministries, Deputy Ministries and other bodies, which form the Consultation Mechanism, with the Cyprus Children's Parliament.

Then, the Press Spokesman of the Cyprus Children's Parliament, Mr. George Efraim Christofi, took the floor, who expressed his great satisfaction with the reactivation of the institution, which had been suspended in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A consultation with the representatives of the bodies that make up the Consultation Mechanism followed and concluded with a commitment to return.
