A clear reduction in the number of deaths from road traffic collisions is demonstrated by the record from the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960 until 2023. These data show a significant decrease in fatal collisions, indicating positive trends for road safety in our country.

In particular, there has been a continuous decrease in fatal collisions in recent years, with 2023 recording the lowest number of fatal collisions since 1960. This suggests a positive trend towards safer roads. In addition, there is an improvement in road safety, as the reduction in fatal collisions is attributed to several factors, such as the introduction of new road safety rules, improved infrastructure, public awareness campaigns, stricter enforcement of traffic rules and increased inspections.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works urges all citizens to exercise extreme caution and obey road traffic rules. Road safety is everyone's responsibility, and the cooperation of all drivers is essential to continue to reduce accidents and improve road safety.
