Following the great success and positive impressions left by the initiative of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for the organization of "Christmas Villages" in Municipalities and Communities in the last three years, the Ministry of State has announced a Grant Scheme for Community Councils and Mountainous/Arctic/Remote Municipalities that would like to undertake the organization of Christmas Villages for the upcoming festive season, specifically for the period from 22 November 2024 to 6 January 2025.
This is a special initiative, which is included in the efforts of the Ministry of Tourism to upgrade the tourism product through specific quality labels, which has now become an institution to stimulate winter tourism.
Following the evaluation of the applications submitted, the Ministry of Tourism is pleased to announce that Christmas Villages will be operating this year in Agros, Dherynia, Kalopanagiotis, Kiti, Kyperounda, Laiki Gitonia (Nicosia Municipality), Lefkara and Fikardou.
The selected destinations will be festively decorated and will include wooden houses with local products and handicrafts for sale, experiential craft and wine and gastronomy workshops, nature activities such as walking on nature trails and cycling, guided tours of the villages and other surprises. Restaurants/establishments located in the wider area of the selected "Christmas Villages" will be included in the overall planning, which will offer a festive menu and/or Cypriot breakfast, thus providing the opportunity for many neighbouring communities to benefit from the event.
The ultimate goal of the Deputy Ministry is that the Christmas Villages, with their local character, should be differentiated from those of cities in Cyprus and abroad and should be enriched every year to attract Cypriots and foreigners alike.
More information about the programme and activities of each Christmas Village will be posted on the dedicated website website.
