In relation to damage to houses, vehicles, commercial premises, etc, caused by the fire that broke out in the communities of Polemiou, Psathiou, Choulous and Lemonas of Paphos District on 11 June 2024, and in the communities of Ipsona of Limassol District and Farmakas of Nicosia District on 16 June 2024, the Ministry of Interior notes the following:
- The last date for the declaration of damage by the affected persons for the granting of financial assistance to the relevant District Administration has been set as Wednesday, 26 June 2024.
- As a point of contact for the affected people, the relevant Prefect has been designated, to whom the affected citizens should turn to in order to report the damages and provide the necessary data and information.
- For management purposes, an inventory and assessment of the damage continues to be carried out by teams of civil engineers and technicians from the relevant Provincial Administrations.
- Where it is established that there is damage to works of state responsibility, crews of the relevant Provincial Administration either arrange for its repair or inform the competent authority to repair the damage and restore the operation of public infrastructure in order to facilitate the living of those affected.
- The Council of Ministers yesterday approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of the Interior, which sets out specific criteria on the basis of which the request is examined and the appropriate financial assistance is granted.
- For unlicensed premises, it outlines the process that affected persons must follow by June 20, 2025, before they can receive financial assistance.
- Financial assistance is based on the State's policy of supporting the affected persons as a measure of relief rather than full compensation for the damage, which is why citizens are encouraged to insure their property against catastrophic events.
After the inventory, assessment and examination of the claim, financial assistance will be paid to the affected people. Upon completion of the damage inventory, the affected parties can proceed with the necessary steps to repair the damage.
