The Ministry of Health announces that today, 27 January 2022:
- No patient deaths with COVID-19 as the final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 724.
- 226 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 76 are in serious condition. A proportion of 77.44% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 17 post-COVID patients who ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.
- A total of 106,890 molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests have been performed.
- 2,536 (positivity rate: 2.37%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 246,354.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
No deaths of patients with COVID-19 were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease remains 724, of which:
- 450 males (62.2%), and
- 274 females (37.8%).
The average age of deaths from the disease is 76.2 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 226 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the inpatient units of the OCYPY, of which 76 are in serious condition or in PICU.
Of the 76 patients in serious condition, 36 are intubated, 2 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) off ventilator and 38 in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 106,890 diagnoses performed, 6,000 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 100,890 by the antigen rapid test, 2,536 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 51 cases from 415 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
- 51 cases from 2,573 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 307 cases out of 2,810 samples taken through private initiative.
- 12 cases out of 177 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 1,319 cases from 46,302 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 796 cases out of 54,588 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
In addition, the following tests were performed without detecting a case:
- 0 cases from 25 specimens obtained under the Personal Physician Referral and Special Group Screening Program through the Public Health Clinics.
