The Ministry of Health announces that today, 14 December 2021:
- 1 person died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 612.
- 159 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 59 are in serious condition. A proportion of 80.51% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 7 post-COVID patients who ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.
- A total of 80,985 PCR and antigen rapid tests have been performed.
- 662 (positivity rate: 0.82% new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by PCR and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 142,228.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 1 person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 was:
- A 92-year-old woman who died on 13 December at her home.
Consequently, the total number of deaths with a terminal cause of COVID-19 is 612, of which:
- 390 males (63.7%), and
- 222 females (36.3%).
The average age of those who died from the disease is 75.8 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 159 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYPY, of which 59 are in serious condition or in NSAIDs.
Of the 59 patients in serious condition, 18 are intubated, 4 are in an Intensive Care Unit off the ventilator and 37 in an Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 80,985 diagnoses performed, 9,665 were performed by the molecular method (PCR) and 71,320 by the antigen rapid test method, 662 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 105 cases from 1,585 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
- 43 cases out of 4,762 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 112 cases out of 2,750 samples taken through private initiative.
- 8 cases out of 337 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 235 cases from 40,524 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 159 cases out of 30,796 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
In addition, the following tests were conducted without detecting a case:
- 0 cases out of 230 specimens obtained under the Personal Physician Referral and Special Group Screening Program through the Public Health Clinics.
- 0 cases from 1 sample taken as part of audits in closed facilities.
