The Ministry of Health announces that today, 10 January 2022:
- 4 people died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 661.
- 245 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 86 are in serious condition. A proportion of 76.64% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 18 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an ICU.
- A total of 137,091 molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests have been performed.
- 4,187 (positivity rate: 3.05%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 208,559.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 4 persons who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 were:
- A woman, aged 82 years, who died on 9 January at Famagusta General Hospital.
- Male, aged 52, who died on 9 January at the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- Female, aged 76, who died on 9 January at Nicosia General Hospital.
- Female, aged 76, who died on 9 January at Nicosia General Hospital.
- Male, aged 71, who died on 10 January in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 661, of which:
- 415 males (62.9%), and
- 246 females (37.1%).
The average age of those who died from the disease is 75.9 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 245 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the inpatient units of the OCYPY, of which 86 are in serious condition or in PICU.
Of the 86 patients in serious condition, 27 are intubated, 6 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit outside of a ventilator, and 53 are in an Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 137,091 diagnoses performed, 13,416 were performed by the molecular method (PCR) and 123,675 by the antigen rapid test method, 4187 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 200 cases from 1,958 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
- 86 cases out of 5,646 samples taken during passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 402 cases out of 4,960 samples taken through private initiative.
- 23 cases out of 403 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 2,680 cases from 87,512 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 786 cases out of 36,163 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
- 10 cases from 449 specimens obtained under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and screening of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
