The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces the end of the 15th Cyprus Wine Competition, which started last Monday, 13 May 2024. The Competition will conclude with an award ceremony on Friday evening, 17 May 2024. The Competition is held under the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Dr. Maria Panayiotou and the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV). A delegated observer/expert of the OIV ensured throughout the Competition that the international protocol and the strict regulations set by the aforementioned Organisation for Wine Competitions were adhered to.

27 wineries and a total of 134 wines competed in a spirit of fair play. The competing wines were evaluated by a distinguished seven-member Jury, the vast majority of whom were foreign judges. In the category of dry, semi-dry and semi-sweet wines, 21 wines received a gold medal and 19 wines a silver medal. For the category of sweet wines, which includes P.O.P. 'Koumandaria', one large gold medal and four gold medals have been awarded. In addition, five special distinctions have been awarded.

The 15th Cyprus Wine Competition once again highlights the continuing development of the quality of Cypriot wine, which has been consistently observed in recent years. It is also noteworthy that even the wines that did not receive any distinction have, for the most part, received high scores and remarkable criticism that would have led to a medal, had it not been for the regulatory restriction by the International Organisation of Vine and Wine to award no more than 30% of the participating wines. In conclusion, Cypriot wine proves once again that it can compete with wines of internationally recognised value.

Finally, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment thanks all those involved in the organisation and holding of the 15th Cyprus Wine Competition and especially the participating wine producers.
