[PIO] Announcement by the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Centre for the rescue of a person in distress in the Paphos sea area

The Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (LRCRC) received a tip-off today 17 January 2024 at 08:57 regarding a person in distress in the marine area of Chloraka, in Paphos.

Adverse weather conditions prevailed in the area and therefore the Centre activated the National Search and Rescue Plan "NEARCHOS", immediately mobilizing a Police foot patrol, as well as a helicopter of the 460 Rescue Search and Rescue Unit of the National Guard with a specialized paramedic of the Air Ambulance Service's air ambulance team.

The individual was rescued by members of the Police using a circular lifeline and was safely pulled ashore with minor injuries and bruises to various parts of his body.

The rescued man, 21 years old from Estonia, was taken by ambulance to Paphos General Hospital for further medical treatment.
