[PIO] Announcement by the Human Resources Development Authority regarding a focus group on the needs of the Cypriot economy in green

A focus group meeting on the needs of the Cypriot economy in green professions and skills was held on 20 December 2023 at the offices of the Cyprus Human Resources Development Authority (CDDA). The event was attended by representatives from ministries/departments/government departments, employers' organisations and associations, trade unions, higher education institutions and HRD professionals. The meeting was addressed by the Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, the Commissioner for Environment and the Director General of the Directorate General for Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.

The issues discussed included the targets set by the European Union (EU) through the European Green Deal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and become climate neutral by 2050, the rapid expansion of technology in all sectors of the economy and human activity, the effort to protect and restore the environment and mitigate the effects of climate change, the implementation of new environmental policies and regulations, as well as

The conclusions from the discussion are expected to be used, inter alia, in the preparation of the new AnAD study "Identifying green skills needs in the Cypriot economy 2023-2030".
