The Deputy Ministry of Culture, following the announcement of the results of the Thymeli Plan for the second semester of 2024, dated 3 June 2024, reports the following:
The THYMELI Plan for the second half of 2024 is the result of dialogue, exchange of views, extensive discussions and consultation between the Ministry of State for Culture and organisations and individuals in the theatre sector. All stakeholders participated in this fruitful process, which led to further changes and amendments to the terms and regulations of the Plan, which resulted in the Plan for the second half of 2024 and are reflected in the results.
Further, the approved proposals belong to entities with a diversity of characteristics, such as entities with or without a roof, entities with or without a Performance Evaluation Committee assessment, newly established and older entities. The proposals approved show diversity in terms of genre, style, subject matter and number of actors.
It should be noted that the Committee for the Evaluation of Proposals noted an improvement both in the presentation and submission of applications and in the quality of the proposals. The Ministry of State for Culture considers that the training seminar organised to assist the applicants in the process of completing and submitting applications also contributed to this.
It should be noted that four productions will receive a grant of €50,000 , six productions will receive a grant of €40,000 and the others will receive grants of €30,000 and €20,000. In addition, for the first time, additional sponsorship amounts of €10,000 will be paid for approved productions in which other bodies cooperate, €1,800 for the production of Cypriot works, €2,000 for inclusion actions and €6,000 will continue to cover the costs of touring by approved producers. In this way, five productions will receive sponsorship in excess of €55,000.
For the implementation of the THYMELI 2024 Plan, it is estimated that a total amount of €1,300,000 will be spent, which is the second highest amount of sponsorship from the Ministry of Culture to the artistic sector after the film sector.
It should be noted that the Ministry of State for Culture receives daily positive feedback from the majority of members of the theatre community on the rationalisation of the THYMELI Plan and in particular on its provision that the collective agreements of workers in the productions it funds must be respected. Nevertheless, it is always ready to listen to views and is open to dialogue that could bring about further improvements to the Plan for next year.
