[PIO] Announcement by the Department of Prisons regarding an incident that occurred yesterday

Yesterday, Sunday, 24 September at around 13:50, a detainee of African origin, while in pre-trial detention, tried to climb a metal barrier door leading to the laboratory area, resulting in an injury from scaly barbed wire in the abdomen. The reaction of the prison guards on duty was immediate. The prisoner was taken to the Prison Infirmary and subsequently, on the instructions of the Medical Officer of the Prison Department, he was transferred to the General Hospital where the wounds were stitched up and he was detained for preventive observation. His state of health is good.

The causes of the incident are being investigated by the Prisons Department.
